چکیده

The chemoautotropic microorganism Thiobacillus thioparus requires orthophosphate or arsenate for the complete oxidation of thiosulfate to sulfate (1). This observation has been further extended by Santer (2), who observed that during the oxidation of thiosulfate by intact cells of this organism, 0’8 is transferred from orthophosphate to the sulfate formed during the oxidation. This transfer was of such magnitude as to indicate that one-fourth of the oxygen atoms of the sulfate were derived from the orthophosphate present during the oxidation. From a consideration of these data and enzymatic observations, Peck (3) proposed a reaction sequence for the oxidation of thiosulfate that is shown by Equations 1 through 5.’

The oxidation of thiosulfate and phosphorylation in extracts of Thiobacillus thioparus.

Thiobmillus thioparus is an autotrophic microorganism that obtains the energy required for growth by the oxidation of reduced inorganic sulfur compounds to sulfate. When it is grown on high concentrations of thiosulfate, the organism accumulates elemental sulfur and produces sulfate. The pathway of thiosulfate oxidation has been essentially unknown; however, it has been postulated that tetrathi...

Distinguishing Anhydrate and Gypsum Scale in Mixing Incompatible Surface and Ground Waters During Water Injection Process

Determination of the type of precipitated calcium sulfate in mixing two incompatible injection and formation waters was studied experimentally in this work at two temperatures of 26oC and 80oC. Here the SEM, EDX and XRD techniques have been used to inspect the temperature effects on the morphology, type, and size of the precipitated calcium sulfate crystals. The result...
